We are only one month into the 2025 Minor League Baseball season, but Padres top prospect Leo De Vries may have cashed in for the best single-game performance already. The 18-year-old, ranked the 17th best prospect in all of baseball, erupted on April 22 on the road with High-A Fort Wayne.
Collecting 14 total bases, De Vries tied for a franchise record eight RBIs to cap a 5-for-5 effort, hitting for the cycle in one of the wildest games this season.
It's only April, but Leo De Vries' performance last night may be the best game we'll see all year.

The 18-year-old hit for the cycle, crushed two home runs and drove in eight runs—all in the same game 😮 https://t.co/w98a5Cgbou pic.twitter.com/6FQgKS9DhW
Padres top prospect Leo De Vries could already have best single-game performance in Minor League Baseball this season
The craziest part about this is that Fort Wayne needed the star prospect to be this good on April 22. In a 15-14 win over Lansing, De Vries' two home runs and eight RBIs were as crucial as ever. He gave the TinCaps the game-winning hit in the top of the ninth inning, which was a two-run triple off the high wall in right field. That three-bagger also completed the cycle.
"Leo De Vries is inevitable, my goodness!"

He became the third player in Fort Wayne history to collect the cycle, and is now batting 7-for-his-last-8 with a walk. Entering Wednesday, De Vries is batting .294 with 13 RBIs. Just three days ago, he was hitting .186, but this recent tirade has brought him way up among the High-A statistical ranks.
In 13 contests, he's registered eight extra-base hits, and is tied for 10th in the Midwest League with a .959 OPS, which leads all Fort Wayne hitters. De Vries obviously needed some time to settle into the season, but an outburst like this one should have Padres fans enthused for what else he can do this season.
He is still a few years away from playing in MLB, but tracking his progress is not only necessary, but exciting. Who knows what else he is capable of? It'll be fun to watch.
