We are now just days away from another season of Padres baseball, and no matter what you may be feeling about the current state of the team, it is difficult to disregard the excitement that comes with the news of spring training finally arriving. With pitchers and catchers reporting in just over a week, let's take a look at the most important dates, locations, and times Padres fans need to know to stay up to date with the team.

Pitchers and catchers report on February 12th

Our first glimpse of just how the Padres are shaping up for 2025 comes in just eight days, when pitchers and catchers report for their first day of spring training. Dylan Cease, Michael King, Elias Diaz, and all of the Padres battery will be headed to Peoria Sports Complex five days before the rest of the team arrives on the 17th.

With the Padres starting rotation and bullpen pieces still not completely ironed out, look for there to be a number of position battles as the spring moves along. Names like Randy Vasquez and Matt Waldron could find themselves competing for a final spot in the rotation.

First spring training game: February 21st versus Seattle Mariners

San Diego plays their first game of the 2025 spring training as the home team against the Seattle Mariners, with whom the Padres share their Peoria complex. A number of highly ranked prospects for the Padres have been called up to join the squad, so look out for pitchers Henry Baez and Ryan Bergert, both poised to make an impact after strong minor league performances.

For any fans looking to attend spring training games, it is important to note that tickets must be bought through the Peoria Sports Complex themselves.

February 23rd: Padres vs. Dodgers

The Padres first chance of revenge against Los Angeles after a brutal ending to the 2024 campaign in the NLDS comes on February 23rd, when the Padres visit the Dodgers at their Camelback Ranch-Glendale facility in Phoenix. The third game of spring training, players like Tirso Ornelas and Mike Brosseau will be fighting hard for a role on the team.

March 27th: Opening Day vs. Atlanta Braves

The Padres have a chance to say hello to a recently departed fan favorite when they take on the Atlanta Braves to kick off the 2025 season. Jurickson Profar will be returning to Petco Park but not in the brown and gold after he signed a three-year, $42 million contract with Atlanta in January.

As for the Opening Day starter, that information depends on the state of the Padres roster come game day. If Cease is still a Padre, one could guess he would be making his first Opening Day start in San Diego. Yu Darvish, who has made three Opening Day starts for the Padres in his time here, is also a safe guess.
