Forrest Wall's go-ahead eighth inning solo home run put the Padres up by one run over the White Sox, which turned into a 3-1 victory at Camelback Ranch on Wednesday. The victory over Chicago (0-5) improves San Diego to 3-3 in the spring standings and ends their three-game losing streak.
Wall batted 2-for-2 on Wednesday to continue his hot streak at the dish. This spring, he is batting 4-for-8 with one home run, one double, and three RBIs.

Following Wall's deep fly, Padres highly regarded prospect Tirso Ornelas scored a run in the ninth inning to provide some insurance. Ornelas has been unstoppable this spring, and on Wednesday, he extended his hitting streak to five games. He's clubbing a .500 average (5-for-10) with a home run and three doubles, including one two-bagger in the the victory over the White Sox.
Chicago made things interesting in the home-half of the ninth. They brought the go-ahead run to the plate following an error up the first base line by reliever Francis Pena, but he was able to keep the White Sox at bay. J.B. Wendelken earned the win out of relief, tossing a scoreless seventh inning for the Padres with one strikeout.
Three Friars arms logged a hold (Wandy Peralta, Alek Jacob, Austin Davis), while Pena secured the save. Ryan Och got hit with the blown save after allowing a run in the bottom of the sixth inning, which tied the game, 1-1. In a lefty-on-lefty crime, Mike Tauchman pulled a solo home run to right field to knot it all up.
White Sox reliever Dan Altavilla earned the loss after giving up the home run to Wall. Chicago top prospect Hagen Smith tossed a scoreless frame, striking out three batters along with one walk and one hit allowed.
San Diego got on the board first after Miguel Vargas' at third base scored Connor Joe in the top of the second inning. Ryan Bergert started for the Friars, firing two scoreless frames alongside a pair of strikeouts in his second outing of the spring. He has yet to allow a run through three innings. Jason Adam was first in relief for San Diego and he tossed a scoreless third inning.
The Padres look to climb above .500 on Thursday with a game slated against the A's at 3:05 p.m.
