Just two weeks of games into the 2025 regular season, the San Diego Padres have already made a trade. With a loaded bullpen, which is arguably the best in baseball, the Friars elected to trade one of their relievers for cash considerations. Tom Cosgrove, a left-hander, is headed to the Chicago Cubs after making no appearances with San Diego this season.

Cosgrove boasted an 11.66 ERA in 2024 with the Padres across 14 2/3 innings. It was a tumultuous year for him in 2024, dealing with left elbow inflammation and constant demotions to the minor leagues. Padres fans wish him well.

Fernando Tatis Jr., Jake Cronenworth hopeful of returning to field this weekend

Speaking of Padres fans' wishes, their utmost concern is the health of starters Fernando Tatis Jr. and Jake Cronenworth, among others. Tatis Jr., who is hitting .364 with 10 runs scored this season, has missed time this week dealing with left shoulder pain. Jake Cronenworth, who has an .895 OPS this year, was battling cramps in his ribs after getting plunked in that area earlier this week.

The hope is that they return to action this weekend. But considering how early we are into the season, it may not make sense to rush them back until they are fully healed.

If they come back this weekend, they will be facing the Colorado Rockies in a three-game slate at Petco Park. It will be the first time that Padres are facing the Rockies this season, and they are hoping to take advantage of the struggling club.

San Diego is the already the fastest team to 10 wins this year, but they are eyeing a series win against a 3-9 Colorado squad. The Padres did not fare well against the Rockies last year, going 5-8 against them despite being one of the top squads in the National League. If the Padres are looking for improvements to build upon in 2025, it's winning games against sub-.500 teams.
