After watching the Los Angeles Dodgers win the World Series, most San Diego Padres fans are sick to their stomachs. The Dodgers knocked off the New York Yankees in Game 5 of the World Series and, in doing so, took home their eighth championship while San Diego is still looking for their first.

Furthermore, it was a massive choke job on the part of the Yankees in Game 5. New York owned a five-run lead heading into the fifth inning, and then disaster struck. A series of errors and mismanagement on the part of Aaron Boone allowed LA to tie the game and the Dodgers eventually won by the final score of 7-6. It was the first time in a World Series elimination game that a team came back from a five-run deficit (or more) and won.

Padres fans are livid at Yankees' choke in World Series vs Dodgers

Watching the Dodgers play in the World Series was a tough pill to swallow for the Friar faithful. Frankly, San Diego outplayed Los Angeles during the National League Division Series, but the Padres' bats went cold at the wrong time.

Unlike the Yankees, the Friars even held a 2-1 advantage over the Dodgers. However, San Diego couldn't hit the broad side of a barn during Games 4 and 5 of the NLDS, and Los Angeles outscored them 10-0 in the final two games of the series. That collapse was already too tough to deal with, and then they had to watch the Yankees hand a title to the Dodgers on a silver platter.

The Yankees tried to make it a series after winning Game 4 and then going up 5-0 early in Game 5. But a dropped fly ball by Aaron Judge, an errant throw from Anthony Volpe, and an egregious play on the part of the Gerrit Cole/Anthony Rizzo opened the door. The Dodgers scored five runs in the fifth inning and New York fell short on the biggest stage in the sport.

Both the Padres and Yankees had their shot to upend the eventual World Series champions, but that's little consolation now. The Dodgers are on top of the baseball world, and based on how their roster is constructed, they'll be the favorites to repeat as champs in 2025.

It's definitely difficult for Pads' fans to watch their NL West rival win it all. And then to know that the opportunity was there for the taking only to watch your favorite team choke it away makes the disappointment even more difficult to bear. Thankfully, the best thing about sports is that there's always next year, and while the Dodgers will be the team to beat in 2025, the Padres have shown that they have what it takes to compete against the World Champions. Gear up to spoil that repeat bid.
