Tied at 1-1, the National League Division Series between the Los Angeles Dodgers and the San Diego Padres moved to Petco Park Tuesday for Game 3. The Padres faithful came out in droves to support their team, especially as they faced their most hated rivals — and their manager.

During the introductions of the starting lineups ahead of Tuesday's game, Petco Park erupted with boos as Dodgers manager Dave Roberts was introduced.

It's rare for an opposing manager to draw more ire from the home fans than, say, an opposing player, but Roberts has done little to endear himself to the Padres or their supporters.

Drama has been intensifying between Roberts and Padres third baseman Manny Machado, who previously played for Roberts and the Dodgers in 2018. Evidently, San Diego fans' fierce defense of Machado boiled over Tuesday evening as their thunderous boos rained down on Los Angeles' manager as he trotted onto the field alongside his players.

Dave Roberts-Manny Machado beef adds new layer of drama to Dodgers-Padres rivalry

In case you missed any of the story leading up to this moment, let's review. The Padres tied the series 1-1 with a 10-2 victory Sunday in a game that saw a 15-minute delay after fans inside Dodger Stadium began throwing items on the field in the direction of Padres outfielders Jurickson Profar and Fernando Tatis Jr. after Profar got into a heated verbal altercation with people in the left field seats.

The drama escalated Monday, when video surfaced showing Machado throwing a ball toward the Dodgers dugout during the game. Roberts accused Machado of throwing at him with "intent" and called the act "unsettling."

When asked about the incident during a press conference prior to Tuesday's game, Padres manager Mike Shildt slipped in a subtle dig at Roberts for making the accusation, complimenting Machado's "exceptional arm talent."

As the NLDS continues, something tells us this is hardly the end of the Roberts-Machado saga. Tensions are reaching boiling points. Old rivalries are intensifying. New rivalries are brewing. Welcome to playoff baseball.
