The 2025 MLB World Series begins Friday night. It's the series that baseball fans have waited for all season, and of course, the Los Angeles Dodgers have found a way back to the Fall Classic. As the Padres' rival vies for their ninth championship in history (and second straight), they will oppose the Toronto Blue Jays, an organization seeking their third ring, and first since 1993.

This series may not particularly interest Padres fans, but as most of us are also purely fans of the game, we cannot bring ourselves to turn the channel to watch something else. If Friars fans need some sort of rooting material, there are three former San Diego players likely to play in the World Series. The Dodgers will definitely be running out Blake Snell, and maybe even Tanner Scott. On Toronto's side, Eric Lauer has not necessarily been a go-to option, but the veteran has pitched in three postseason games in 2025.

Eric Lauer

Lauer was a bit of a Swiss Army knife for the Blue Jays this season. He made 15 starts and appeared in 13 games out of the bullpen, logging a 3.18 ERA in 104.2 innings with 102 strikeouts. He also posted a career-best 2.2 bWAR, and picked up nine wins for Toronto.

Blue Jays manager John Schneider has not turned to him often in the postseason, though. He tossed one scoreless inning in the ALCS against the Seattle Mariners, and before that, allowed three runs in two innings vs. the New York Yankees in the ALDS. Maybe with the over-usage of Louis Varland the entire postseason, Lauer could find himself pitching in more games.

Tanner Scott

Scott has not pitched in the postseason yet after having an emergency surgery to remove an abscess. He has not appeared in a game since September 26, but he is reportedly available for the World Series.

In his first season with Los Angeles, he produced a 4.74 ERA in 57 innings.

Blake Snell

Snell has arguably been the best pitcher in the 2025 MLB playoffs. The 2023 NL Cy Young Award winner has allowed just two runs in 21 innings (three starts) alongside 28 strikeouts. The left-handed veteran has given the opposition fits for the entirety of October, which has Padres fans' stomachs churning.

The guy gifted San Diego one of the greatest pitching seasons in franchise history, but dipped out after one campaign. Is he someone the Padres can really root for? It's complicated, but regardless, we'll have to watch him anyway. He will start Game 1 for the Dodgers.
