Manny Machado calls out umpires for giving Dodgers a break and he's 100% correct

At the very least, Machado showed some good leadership.

In what has already been a dramatic series between two bitter NL West rivals in the Padres and the Dodgers, San Diego just cannot seem to get anything going their way. Yes, the Dodgers have won all three games this series with more to go, and have taken five of six against the Friars since last week. Yes, Will Smith crushed the entire city of San Diego's spirit last night with a pinch-hit walk-off home run. But despite all of that let's be fair.

On Tuesday night in the top of the seventh inning, Dodgers reliever Matt Sauer ran a 95 MPH in on Jose Iglesias. Despite leading by five runs, Sauer's intentions did not look all that innocent, and Padres' Manny Machado wanted an explanation.

Being the great leader that he is, Machado stuck up for Iglesias by coming out of the dugout and putting the home plate umpire on the hot seat. Nothing really came of it, but Machado was right for doing this.

Padres-Dodgers rivalry ignited once again from multiple hit by pitches

This was not the first time that emotions ran a bit too high. In the series opener, Padres manager Mike Shildt shouted at Andy Pages after he was hit by a pitch. In total there have been five hit by pitches this series, including one to Fernando Tatis Jr. and Shohei Ohtani. Pages has been nailed twice, and Iglesias was the fifth.

The Padres and the Dodgers are already a rivalry, but as more guys get plunked, and as the games remain relatively competitive, we can expect more flare from these two clubs moving forward. Embarrassingly, though, the Dodgers are pulling away in the division standings, leading the Padres by six games entering Thursday.

To close out the series, Ryan Bergert and Yoshinobu Yamamoto are the probable pitchers. Yamamoto has hit two batters this season across 78 1/3 frames, and Bergert has drilled one batter spanning 19 1/3 innings.
