Changing the Padres’ City Connect uniforms was always going to set off a reaction. That was unavoidable the second it became clear San Diego was moving on from the wildly popular pink-and-mint City Connect era after the 2025 season. But if the recent leaks are even mostly accurate, there’s a good chance the panic can calm down a bit, because this doesn’t look like some bland corporate reset. It looks like the Padres are trying to do something bold again.
The team already told fans a new City Connect look is coming in April 2026, and the teaser campaign made the intended inspiration pretty obvious. San Diego’s video was framed around Día de los Muertos, complete with the “Feliz Día de los Muertos!” messaging that immediately sent everyone into detective mode. The only real question was whether the Padres would follow that theme with something visually daring enough to live up to the standard their first City Connect set created.

Based on the leaked images floating around, they might’ve pulled it off. TThe alleged design shown online features a full navy base with orange and pink accents, creating a darker and more dramatic look than some earlier guesses suggested. That’s a risky pivot after how beloved the original City Connects became, but this doesn’t feel watered down one bit.
If these are accurate, it’s nice the Padres didn’t recreate the exact same electricity as the 2022–2025 uniforms, because that look already had its moment. Trying to top that by making a slightly tweaked pink-and-mint sequel would’ve felt lazy. Going in a totally different direction — and going there aggressively — was the smarter play. The rumored blue-and-orange influence gives the whole thing a 1990s San Diego sports feel, while the themed details keep it from looking like a generic throwback experiment.
There’s also something kind of perfect about the reaction this leak is getting. Some fans were always going to miss the old colors because those jerseys became a real part of the Padres’ identity, not just a novelty. Others were more than ready for a turn back toward something moodier, darker, and a little more nostalgic. These leaks seem to land in the middle of that tension. They’re rooted in culture without looking overly safe. And they actually look like they belong to a team that understands City Connects are supposed to start conversations, not avoid them.
However, these are still leaks. Until the Padres officially unveil the uniforms in April, nothing is locked in, and leaked merchandise images don’t always tell the full story of how a jersey will look on the field. But anxious fans hoping this next City Connect chapter would still feel special have a pretty good reason to relax. If this is the real thing, San Diego didn’t follow up one iconic look with a disappointment.
