Padres fans looking for familiar faces in the 2026 World Series will have options on both sides. Finding former Padres aren’t usually hard to find at this point. The Milwaukee Brewers and Tampa Bay Rays feature six players who passed through San Diego’s organization. Three wore a Padres uniform in the majors. Three others were prospects whose careers eventually took them elsewhere.

Together, they offer a little of everything from power, speed, starting pitching and late-inning relief. Here’s where each player’s Padres connection began and what he brings to this series.

Former Padres major leaguers in the World Series

Nick Martinez, Tampa Bay Rays

Martinez pitched for San Diego in 2022 and 2023, handling both starting and relief assignments. With Tampa Bay, he has put together a strong season in a steady role in the rotation.

He finished the 2026 regular season 15-6 with a 3.10 ERA and 1.09 WHIP across 180 innings, making 31 starts.

Gary Sánchez, Milwaukee Brewers

Sánchez’s brief Padres tenure packed plenty of power. He hit 19 home runs in 72 games for San Diego in 2023 after arriving on a waiver claim.

That same power remains his bread and butter. Sánchez finished the 2026 regular season with 12 homers, 38 RBIs and a .771 OPS for Milwaukee. His .209 average tells one story, the .349 on-base percentage tells another. He’s helped the Brewers beyond the occasional homer.

Jorge Mateo, Tampa Bay Rays

Mateo appeared in 79 games for the Padres across 2020 and 2021 before continuing his career elsewhere.

His 2026 regular-season totals across Atlanta and Tampa Bay included 19 stolen bases, five home runs and a .203 average. The offensive limitations have pushed him to be more of a journeyman. But his speed gives Tampa Bay another way to pressure an opponent.

Former Padres prospects on the Brewers’ roster

Jake Bauers, Milwaukee Brewers

San Diego drafted Bauers in the seventh round in 2013 and traded him in the Wil Myers deal the following year. He never played for the Padres in the majors.

Bauers supplied substantial production for Milwaukee in 2026, slashing .266/.389/.484 with 26 home runs, 86 RBIs and an .873 OPS during the regular season. He then earned NLCS MVP honors as the Brewers swept the Dodgers to reach the World Series. More than a decade after beginning his career as a Padres draft pick, Bauers heads into the Fall Classic as a central figure in Milwaukee’s championship push.

Trevor Megill, Milwaukee Brewers

Megill’s San Diego connection also began in the draft. The Padres selected him in 2015, and the Cubs took him in the 2019 Rule 5 Draft before his major league debut.

He has become a major bullpen presence for Milwaukee. Megill recorded 30 saves with a 2.63 ERA, 69 strikeouts and a 0.89 WHIP in 61⅔ regular-season innings in 2026. That’s the kind of relief work that helps a contender finish the games its lineup and rotation put within reach.

Robert Gasser, Milwaukee Brewers

Gasser went from the Padres to the Brewers in the August 2022 Josh Hader trade. The lefty posted a 3.87 ERA with 103 strikeouts in 109 1/3  innings during the 2026 regular season, then helped Milwaukee finish off San Diego in the NLDS. Gasser allowed one run over four innings in the Brewers’ 3-1 Game 4 victory at Petco Park, escaping a bases-loaded jam in the first. Entering the World Series, he had allowed just one earned run across nine postseason innings.

Brandon Lockridge, Milwaukee Brewers

Lockridge adds another Padres connection beyond Milwaukee’s active World Series roster. Part of the Brewers’ postseason taxi squad, the outfielder appeared in 47 games for San Diego in 2025 before being traded to Milwaukee in the deal that brought Nestor Cortes to the Padres. He’s staying ready for an opportunity while his teammates chase a championship.
