The San Diego Padres are bringing in several players on the trade deadline. According to Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic, Cincinnati Reds third baseman Brandon Drury will be going to San Diego.

Drury was one of the most expected players from the Reds to be traded, according to Drew Koch of Blog Red Machine. Drury is eligible for free agency in 2023.

Though he didn’t show much potential earlier in his career, he’s doing extremely well this season. Drury is hitting .274/.335/.520 for an OPS of .855. The Padres have 85.6 percent playoff odds according to FanGraphs, and they’re likely trying to go all-in for a playoff spot.

Trading for Drury will help them significantly this season.

Padres trading for Brandon Drury will help improve playoff odds

On the 2022 MLB trade deadline, the Padres have reached several major deals that’ll bring massive improvements to the team. Though they didn’t need another third baseman, they needed improvements in the lineup overall and can utilize Drury as a designated hitter.

Drury will join Juan Soto, Josh Bell and Josh Hader as new players in San Diego. Manny Machado has carried the lineup in terms of power all season, and he will now be joined by several players who can help.

Fernando Tatis Jr. is also expected to return to the lineup soon, which could turn the Padres lineup around in the best way. Soto, Bell, Drury, Tatis and Machado will quickly be a lineup to fear in the league, and because of these trades, there’s a very strong chance they could make it far in the playoffs.
