The San Diego Padres need catching help, and these three guys should be on their radar.

It has been a rough year for Padres catchers in 2020. Not only have they had to deal with injuries at the position, but the lack of offense is also a significant concern. Defensively staunch backstop Austin Hedges, one of the best defenders in the game at the position, is slashing .163/.241/.367 with a 64 wRC+.

His cohort and battery mate Francisco Mejia is currently on the injured list and is slashing .079/.146/.184 through 16 games. Luis Torrens, who was recalled from the alternate site when Mejía went on the shelf, last week, has hit just .167 through eight plate appearances.

In an otherwise bleak trade market, due mainly to the seasonal fallout resulting from the national pandemic, there are fewer options of valuable players for teams to target. The Padres’ main market focus should be the catcher position. Here are three guys to be targeting at the deadline.
