It’s not much to go off, but the San Diego Padres seem to be in mid-season form after their first couple of summer camp workouts.

You never know what to expect from a young group of players like the San Diego Padres have, but all indications are that this group showed up to summer camp ready to go.

Of course, we don’t have a ton of video or access to really know. But as someone who follows a lot of teams around the league, I was most impressed by the workouts and performances from the Padres than any other team.

With not having games to really evaluate these players, you have to make assumptions based off body language, interviews, and the little bit of video we do have.

Luckily, the Padres twitter account did a great job of compiling video from the first weekend of workouts and I was highly impressed.

Maybe someone who stuck out the most was Eric Hosmer.

I think it’s very important he and Manny Machado take charge and lead this young group of players in what is going to be a weird season. And all indications so far show me that they’re doing just that as both seem energized and in great shape.

In this interview with Hosmer he talks about how the Padres were able to stay in game shape during the shutdown and how he feels like they’re already in mid-season form.

Perhaps that’s just the normal preseason optimism, but again, from what little video I’ve seen it seems accurate.

From the Padres workouts on the field to breaking down video on the big screen to avoid meetings in small rooms, this team just seemed ready to hit the ground running and that can’t be taken any other way but positively.

This is where it can be a real benefit of having a bunch of young players who are hungry to prove themselves at the big league level.

Even someone like Jurickson Profar who got a lot of attention this first weekend, he’ll have a very short time this season to try and prove to teams why they should sign him this offseason.

Again, maybe this is me getting caught up in the start of a new season, but I really loved the action that I saw from the Padres over the weekend and they seem like a group that is excited, determined, and focused even with the weird situation and season they are facing.
