We take a look at five San Diego Padres players who could be traded during the 2020 season for a variety of reasons.
We all know San Diego Padres general manager A.J. Preller is a busy man, and it would not surprise me to see him make a ton of trades throughout the 2020 season.
This team certainly wants to compete in 2020, and I think they will, but if there are moves that can help this team content for a World Series down the road, then I don’t think he’ll hesitate from pulling the trigger.
In this article I want to look at five players who it could make sense to trade during the season regardless of what the team looks like.
Obviously, if the Padres are in contention for a Wild Card spot — and I think they will be — then they’re not just going to give any of these players away if they’re solid contributors.
But if there is a team out there trying to win a division and contend for a championship that has a hole to fill and the Padres can help, we should give hold back the future just to try and win a Wild Card spot — in my opinion.
If the Padres are in the hunt for the division, then that’s another situation completely.
But if there are opportunities to bring back impact prospect or players that will help us in the future, then Preller has to consider moving these five players during the season.
Of course, I’m going to ignore the obvious here as we know Preller would love to move Wil Myers — and Eric Hosmer, for that matter — but this more so focused on expendable players who could help other teams and bring us back significant pieces for the future.
