In our second installment looking at future rosters of the San Diego Padres and it’s minor league affiliates, we look at its High-A team the Lake Elsinore Storm.

Now looking at our second team in the future roster series of the San Diego Padres we look about an hour north to the Lake Elsinore Storm.

Coming off of a season that saw them play until game five in the best of five California league championship series, the Storm future is as cloudy as it’s Nickname suggests.

This year’s team should have a mix of returning players who weren’t as successful in their first go-around in the advanced league and players moving up from Low-A or lower.

On paper the outlook looks as if this team will be carried by it’s pitching.

The offense until proven otherwise looks as if it could struggle to score runs. There isn’t a lot of power, however it will have significant speed. So manufacturing runs and playing small ball could be a premium.

That puts an important emphasis on the pitching. Which just happens to have a chance to be very good. Injuries hit three-fifths of this projected rotation last year. When healthy though, this could be a special staff.

This is the level we shall start to see just how much depth this system still has even after all of the players who have graduated off of previous top prospect lists since the beginning of last year.

Still being able to put together a full 26-man roster for all four full season affiliates and the Padres too, without having to go outside the organization to fill depth pieces shows how well A.J. Preller and the front office has done in acquiring not only talent but depth to match it.

Well let’s jump right in and meet the possible roster of the 2020 lake Elsinore Storm.

*Note: For readers of my first article in the series, we have made some slight adjustments to my previous article in this series for the Fort Wayne roster. Which in turn changes what my roster will now look like for Lake Elsinore. Xavier Edwards was to be the starting shortstop for Lake Elsinore in my original write-up but I have made the necessary changes to accommodate for this roster and for the roster with the TinCaps.
