San Diego Padres vs. Atlanta Braves July 14 live stream: Watch MLB online
The San Diego Padres will try to avoid being swept by the Atlanta Braves in the series finale on Sunday afternoon. Today is the last day of MLB.tv’s free weekend!
After a second straight loss to drop the series, the San Diego Padres will play the Atlanta Braves in Game 3 on a beautiful Sunday afternoon. The Padres will don their camouflage uniforms to support the troops, as is tradition for Sunday home games.
The Friars look to bounce back from a demoralizing loss as the first series of the second half comes to a close.
On the mound, Sunday’s game will feature Cal Quantrill vs. Mike Soroka. Quantrill began the year in the Padres’ rotation, having a 5.23 ERA with 27 strikeouts through his first six starts.
He was moved into the bullpen at the end of June, where he instantly saw a spike in performance. Quantrill allowed one run in 5.2 total innings pitched for a 1.59 ERA in four games as a reliever.
He was then tasked with starting against the San Francisco Giants and got rocked; he lasted only 4.1 innings and surrendered three runs off of five hits. Cal looks far more comfortable in the bullpen, but the lack of options in the Padres’ rotation has forced their hand.
Quantrill will need to have a good start this time around as he’ll battle All-Star pitcher Mike Soroka, who’s had a sensational year for the Braves. The second-year starter leads the MLB in win percentage, sporting a 9-1 record with a 2.42 ERA and 1.052 WHIP. He also threw a scoreless sixth inning in the All-Star Game for the National League.
