The San Diego Padres try to bounce back on Saturday after falling to the Atlanta Braves in the first of a three-game series.
The San Diego Padres and Atlanta Braves will move on to Game 2 of the series on Saturday evening. Find out how to watch the Padres vs. Braves online or live tonight, with July 13’s latest MLB live stream. Note that MLB.tv will be FREE all weekend long for every game.
After finishing the first half by taking three out of four against the Los Angeles Dodgers in LA, the Padres were hoping to ride some momentum into the All-Star break. Instead, San Diego fell flat in their second-half debut, falling to the Braves 3-5 on Friday night.
The Friars will get another crack at the National League East leaders on Saturday evening. The Braves are now 55-37, a modest six games ahead of the Washington Nationals who are second in the division. Atlanta is in the Top-10 for every offensive category in the MLB, including 4th in RBIs and slugging percentage.
Meanwhile, the Padres once again fell below .500 and now sit at 45-46, 14 games behind the Dodgers in the NL West. They’re still very much in play for a wild card spot though, 2.0 games back from what feels like a free-for-all in the NL.
On the mound for San Diego, Joey Lucchesi will look to build off of a strong finish to the first half. His last seven games show a 3.51 ERA, 1.02 WHIP, and nearly 3:1 K/BB rate. Against the Dodgers before the break, Lucchesi went a solid 6.1 innings, surrendering three runs with four strikeouts and no walks.
The Padres hope the second-year starter can go deep into games and relieve some of the pressure from a crippled bullpen. He’ll have his work cut out for him as he faces Julio Teheran, who owns a 3.75 ERA and 1.361 WHIP this season, though he’s sporting a 4.57 FIP. He’s 5-4 against the Padres in his career.
