San Diego Padres Lineup vs Rockies and More Roster Moves
After nailing down their first win last night, the San Diego Padres go for two in a row tonight at home against the Colorado Rockies.
After the San Diego Padres announced that right fielder Wil Myers would be heading to the disabled list, a corresponding roster move was also announced, as well as tonight’s lineup versus Jon Gray and the dangerous Colorado Rockies.
With Myers out, Cory Spangenberg is moving into left-field and Jose Pirela, on a five-game hitting streak, is going to play in right. Christian Villanueva will get the call again at third base, giving Chase Headley another day off.
Matt Szczur will get the start in centerfield, giving the slumping Manuel Margot a night off and, in turn, giving the lineup a different look altogether.
Austin Hedges is in the lineup again after missing the last two games with back-tightness. Hopefully, he’ll stay in the lineup through first pitch tonight and stay in there.
Here’s the rest of the Padres’ batting order tonight, as per our friend AJ Cassavell of MLB.com:
Pitching tonight for the Friars will be the lefty, Clayton Richard. After a seven-inning, four strikeout no-decision in his first start of the season against the Milwaukee Brewers, the 34-year-old looks to continue on a similar path.
Going for the Rockies will be Jon Gray, who had a 3.67 earned-run average and ten wins last season. Freddy Galvis (.429 in seven at-bats), Eric Hosmer (1-for-2), and Matt Szczur (1-for-3) have all had success against Gray, and Spangy has a homer against him (his only hit in ten at-bats facing him).
As per Kevin Acee of The San Diego Union-Tribune, AJ Preller and Andy Green have decided to shore up their bullpen and bring up 25-year-old right-hander, Phil Maton, to fill out the relief corps.
