San Diego Padres Spring Training Notebook: Hosmer Press Conference

HOUSTON, TX - APRIL 08: Eric Hosmer
HOUSTON, TX - APRIL 08: Eric Hosmer

Happy Tuesday morning San Diego Padres fans! Last night, the Padres made the signing of Eric Hosmer official. His first press conference with the team will be held at 8 am PT today.

There are just three days remaining until we are treated to real San Diego Padres baseball games. I know, it’s just spring training games, but the recent addition of Eric Hosmer has seemed to greatly infuse the Padres’ fan base over the last few days. We also get the enjoyment of watching Fernando Tatis, Jr, Luis Urias, and other youngsters this week.

In case you missed it yesterday, Fox Sports San Diego released their spring training TV schedule for this season. Our Tim Ryder provided a complete summary of that release here so fans can plan their spring training viewing accordingly.

The biggest news out of Peoria yesterday was the official announcement we’ve all been waiting for.

Padres’ fans can watch Hosmer’s press conference on the team’s Twitter account, Facebook Live, and MLB.com.

Will Rowan Wick stick with the San Diego Padres?

Newly acquired RHP Rowan Wick took his first bullpen session yesterday for the team. The Padres claimed Wick off waivers from the St. Louis Cardinals on February 16th.

The 6’3″ relief pitcher has had a very successful minor league career up to this point. Through 81 games, Wick has posted a 4-2 record, 2.94 earned run average, a 1.21 WHIP, and has allowed opposing batters to hit just .203 off him.

Wick, 25, has a big uphill battle in front of him to make the Padres’ 25-man roster, but keep his name in the back of your mind. He’ll start the season in El Paso, but should see time at Petco Park sooner rather than later should he have a good spring camp.

Lastly, I wanted to remind you all of what we have coming up at Friars on Base. We will have Randy Jones with us in the upcoming days discussing San Diego Padres baseball. Stay tuned for that interview which is sure to be an enlightening discussion.
