Padres Rumors: Padres Still Favorites For James Shields?

More info has come out on the ongoing James Shields saga. The veteran righty is still the big fish out there left in the market and according to multiple reports, we could have a resolution today or tomorrow.

Let’s start with CBS Sports Jon Heyman, who reported not only about about him signing today or tomorrow, but that it’s down to the Padres and the Cubs, with the Padres still the favorites in the clubhouse for now. The Cubs have Shields former manager in Tampa, Joe Maddon. They’ve added Jon Lester and Jason Hammel already this off-season to go along with Jake Arrieta. Add Shields to that and it’s pretty good.

There are two other big parts of information to come out per ESPN’s Jim Bowden. First, the Padres remain confident in the fact that they will be able to add the right-hander.

Secondly, we may have the terms of the deal according to Bowden: four years and between $72-$80 million
