Padres Rumors: Padres in Talks With Orioles?

The Padres have a ton of outfielders. The Orioles have lost Nelson Cruz and Nick Markakis this off-season. What they have is Steve Pearce and Delmon Young. They could use another guy like Seth Smith or Will Venable.  According to Eduardo Encina of the Baltimore Sun, the Padres and Orioles have talked about such players.

The Padres need to move some outfielders, and left-handed hitters Seth Smith and Will Venable are drawing the most interest from the Orioles. Both Smith and Venable have pretty dramatic splits, hitting right-handers considerably better than left-handed pitching. But the Orioles appear content with starting the season with platoons in the outfield. One team source said the Padres were inquiring about Dylan Bundy and Kevin Gausman, who have been on every team’s wish list in potential trades. Obviously, that wasn’t happening. But in a month, if the Padres are still looking to move outfielders, the Orioles would have bargaining power.

Neither Gausman nor Bundy would be coming to the Padres in that deal. Maybe Bud Norris? Maybe the Padres can ask for him? Or a bullpen arm to help for some additional depth there since R.J. Alvarez was dealt.

Anyway, expect the teams to continue to discuss a deal for either outfielder. It’s clear that these teams could have a match in some way shape or form.
