Padres Winter Meetings Rumor Roundup: Day One

Though the San Diego Padres didn’t make any moves during the first day of the Winter Meetings, there were tons of rumors and some of them seem to have potential:

Rangers Interested In Andrew Cashner And Tyson Ross/Padres Want Profar

There is no question that the Texas Rangers need pitching, but are they willing to part with young shortstop Jurickson Profar in order to get it?

According to several reports, Texas is looking to trade for either Andrew Cashner or Tyson Ross, However, San Diego wants Profar in exchange.

Joel Sherman of the NY Post is reporting that even though the Padres want the Rangers’ prized prospect, a return of either Cashner, Ross, or Kennedy isn’t enough.

Padres Want Power Hitting Outfielder, Possibly Favorites For Kemp

The Padres number one priority this offseason appears to be acquiring a power hitting outfielder. They’ve reportedly discussed options such as Jay Bruce, Justin Upton, and Yoenis Cespedes.

However, their main focus seems to be Dodgers outfielder Matt Kemp and Bob Nightengale of USA Today tweeted that the Padres are the favorites to land him and that their offer includes catcher Yasmani Grandal and another player.

Kemp hit .287/.346/.506 with 25 home runs and 89 RBIs for the Dodgers in 2014.
