Should Padres Make A Play For Wilin Rosario?
We have talked ad nauseam about how the Padres need bats. The Padres need bats. Well, here’s an out of the box way to get a power bat.
“The Baby Bull” Wilin Rosario should be on A.J. Preller’s radar. Even if you move him off catcher, and in Petco, he could work as a first baseman not necessarily an outfielder. Rosario is two years removed from a .292/21/79 year with the Rockies. His home/road spilts are a bit worrisome. In his career, Rosario is a .305/.346/.540. On the road? .242/.266/.424. Yeesh. However, his BABIP on the road is .282 compared to .330 at Coors so maybe it’s a bit of bad luck? In baseball today, power bats, especially right-handed power bat simply don’t grow on trees.
If the Padres do in fact trade Yasmani Grandal, Rosario can be acquired to catch and play first base. How much can you trust Yonder Alonso at this point anyway? Rosario isn’t bothered by Petco either. In his career there, he’s hit .279 with two homers and 14 RBI in 20 games. Sometimes you have to get creative, and for the Padres, doing so may be acquiring Rosario to add some punch to the lineup.
