Padres Make Flurry Of Roster Moves
We talked about how the Padres have a bit of a 40-man crunch yesterday on this site and today we got our answers on what they did. the 60-day DL goes away as of today. Here’s the full list:
Off 60 Day DL: Carlos Quentin, Yonder Alonso, Casey Kelly and Cory Luebke
Designated For Assignment: Eric Stults and Donn Roach
Outrighted and elected free agency: Adam Moore
Waived: Ryan Jackson (claimed by LA Dodgers)
The Padres have a full 40 man roster.
Stults went 8-17 in 2014, was arbitration eligible for the first time and is 34 years old. He’s not in the team’s plans moving forward, nor should he really be, especially considering the Padres depth.
Roach went 4-6 with an ERA over five for AAA El Paso. Again, with the Padres depth in the system at the position, no reason to keep around someone like that, especially if they can get anything out of Kelly and Lubke coming back.
Jackson and Moore won’t be big losses either. They are basically in case of glass break options and the Pads have some infield depth they can turn and they can dip into the free agent market for additional catching depth.
This is the first move of many this off-season for the Padres. Look out for more as we go along.
