In case you hadn’t seen it, voting for the Hank Aaron award is going on right now and ends on Sunday. The award goes to the best offensive player in each league and is voted on by the fans. Every team has a nominee and the Padres’ nominee is outfielder Seth Smith.
The 32-year-old outfielder was the Padres’ most consistent hitter all season long, compiling a .266/.367/.440 line with 12 homers and 58 RBI. He parlayed that into a nice three-year extension for himself.
The Padres are going to need his left-handed bat to be a part of the offensive solution next year for a team that was historically bad with the bats. With the Padres looking for bats at many positions this off-season, Smith will be a guy the Padres are going to count on.
