The San Diego Padres extend their win streak to 5 straight games, with a 1-0 shutout of the Colorado Rockies in series opener of a three-game set on Monday night at Petco Park. Eric Stults got the start against Tyler Matzek and the Colorado Rockies. Stults pitched very well, going 6.1 innings, giving up 7 hits, striking out 5, and only walking 1 batter.

The Rockies starter, Tyler Matzek, didn’t pitch too bad either, as he went 6 innings, giving up 1 run, on 3 walks, while striking out 8 Padre batters. The one Padres’ run that Matzek gave up, was in the very first inning, when Rene Rivera drove in Jedd Gyorko with an RBI double, Gyorko had walked previously. That turned out to be enough for Eric Stults who was lights-out.

The Padres and Rockies play Game Two tonight at 7:10 PM PDT, when the Padres send Robbie Erlin who is (4-4) with a 4.53 ERA  to the mound to try and extend the Padre win streak to 6 games, against the Rockies starter, Jorge De La Rosa who is (14-11) with a 4.14 ERA.

Keep the Faith.
