ICYMI: Padres Keep Win Streak Rolling with Shutout of Giants in Game One

The San Diego Padres extended there win streak to two games with Fridays 5-0 shutout win over the San Fransisco Giants. The Padres sent Odrisamer Despaigne to the mound to face off against Tim Hudson of the Giants. Despaigne pitched excellent in tonight’s game going 7 strong innings only giving up 2 hits with 6 strikeouts and 1 walk.

Hudson on the other hand didn’t fair to well against the Friars offense tonight, The Pads jumped on Hudson right away in the first inning. It all started when Yongaveris Solarte lead off the bottom of the 1st inning for the Padres with a single, he was then moved to third when Jedd Gyrko singled. Seth Smith was then walked and with the bases loaded Alexi Amarista brought home 2 runs with a 2 RBI double.

The Padres werent done there, the next batter Cameron Maybin stepped up and swung at the first pitch and singled up the middle scoring Smith and Amarista to put the Padres up 4-0 after 1 inning.

Nothing happened in the 2nd inning, but in the 3rd the Padres tacked on 1 more run when  Smith drives in  Gyrko with an RBI Double to put the Padres up 5-0. Gyrko had reached on a 2 base error by Pablo Sandoval and reached 3rd when Yasmani Grandal grounded out to second previously.

In the end, the Giants starter Tim Hudson only went 4.1 innings giving up seven hits on five runs, but only four of which were earned. He also walked two and struck out two.

The Series Continues with Game 2 this evening at 5:40 PM PDT when the Padres Andrew Cashner (4-7) with a 2. 20 ERA  goes against the Giants Yusmeiro Petit (5-4) with a 3.64 ERA.
