The Cuban right hander Odrisamer Despaigne (3-5, 3.24 ERA) pitches on Tuesday against Wade Miley (7-10, 4.30 ERA). Despaigne started against the Diamondbacks last month and got the loss, going 5 innings and allowing 3 runs. He also faced Arizona in June and got the win, pitching 6.2 innings and only allowing one run. Despaigne has struggled in the last month but has shown he can bounce back from rough outings.

Miley has 11 career starts against San Diego, tied for the most against any team in his career. He has not fared well, with a 1-6 record and a 4.96 ERA. He has faced the Padres twice already this year and has not gotten a decision. He has allowed 6 runs in 14 innings.

The rookie David Peralta is another good hitter for Arizona. In fact, he may be a dark hose Rookie of the Year candidate. He is hitting .289 with 8 triples and a .461 slugging percentage. He is hitting .350 against the Padres in 20 at-bats this year.
