Triple-A: El Paso Chihuahuas (65-71)

Last night the El Paso Chihuahuas defeated the Colorado Springs Sky Sox 9-7. The offense was spread throughout the entire of the Chihuahuas’ lineup. Catcher Adam Moore led the team in hits going 3-for-5 including a solo home run in the 6th inning. Chihuahuas RF Alex Castellanos included a solo long ball of his own in the second inning while going 1-for-4 on the night.

Starter Juan Pablo Oramas didn’t have his best outing despite lasting 5 innings. Oramas allowed 5 earned runs on 9 hits and 1 walk while striking out 6 on the night. Oramas continues to struggle on the hill this season. Oramas owns a 5.33 ERA at the Triple-A level this season in 106.1 innings of work. Opponents are currently batting a whopping .297 off him, it is no surprise that he owns such a high ERA. He will need to work on having more swing and misses from his opponents if he want to lower his ERA and overall status as a prospect for the Padres.

Double-A: San Antonio Missions

Last night the San Antonio Missions lost to the Corpus Christi Hooks 7-3. While many of the top hitting prospects had hitless nights at the plate, Hunter Renfroe shined in the Missions loss. Renfroe went 3-for-4 with a double and 2 RBI on the season. Despite his great night at the plate, Renfroe has not had the strongest offensive season. He owns a triple slash line of .244/.304/.365 on the season. He will need to drastically improve his average if he hopes to be projected as a starting outfielder and not just a fourth outfield/bench player. Renfroe lack of success could just be that he needs more time to mature as he did own a slash line at Single-A level of .295/.370/.565 in 278 ABs before being promote to the Double-A level.

The Missions will play the rubber game of the series tonight before beginning their last home series of the season. With 8 games left in the season and being 6 games back in the standing it is not likely that the Missions will make the playoffs although they are not statistically eliminated yet. They still have an outside chance of making the playoffs, but will need all hands on deck from Renfroe, Austin Hedges, and Alex Dickerson if they hope to make a push down the stretch.

Single-A: Lake Elsinore Storm (72-61)

Last night the Lake Elsinore Storm scored 8 runs to defeat the Bakersfield Blaze 8-2. Starter Bryan Rodriguez earned a quality start pitching 6 strong innings allow 2 runs on 6 hits and 1 walk while striking out 2. Rodriguez record on the season now sits at 8-8 with a 4.12 ERA.

Top prospect Jose Rondon had a multi-hit game going 2-for-4 with a double and 2 RBI on the night. Rondon owns a triple slash line of .318/.368/.403 on the season across all levels, while most of his at-bats have come at the Advanced Single-A level split between the Angels and Padres systems. Rondon was the prized player that came to the Padres via the Houston Street trade while he still needs a few seasons of time in the minors before getting a cup of coffee in the Majors. His bat has remained stroing since the trade and should be the Padres shortstop of the future; he could arrive to the majors as early as the 2016 season if his bat continues to progress and he doesn’t have any major slumps.

Single-A: Fort Wayne TinCaps (57-74)

Last night the Fort Wayne TinCaps defeated the Bowling Green Hot Rods 6-3. Top prospect Trea Turner continues his hot hitting since being selected in the 13th overall in the 2014 First-Year Player Draft. Turner owns a triple slash line of .335/.414/.470 on the season between Eugene and Fort Wayne.

Dustin Peterson also joined in on the hit parade going 2-for-4 with a double and RBI on the night.

While 1B Jake Bauers went 1-for-4 with 1 RBI and 2 run scored. Bauers owns a triple slash line of .291/.366/.409 on the season and continues to outperform his competition despite being years younger.

The TinCaps will face Bowling Green for the second of three games tonight as they are having their last home stand of the season, which ends on Friday.

Fort Wayne has already been eliminated from the playoffs, but they have a lot of talented baseball prospects that I will be excited to watch them play at the next level next season and see them continue to add value to the Padres strong minor league system.
