Double A: San Antonio Missions (63-65)

The Missions played as a complete team in their 5-0 road victory Wednesday night over the RoughRiders.

Leonel Campos, who has struggled this year, tossed a gem. Campos was on the hill for six innings and only allowed two hits and one walk on eight strikeouts. Campos had allowed 27 runs in his previous 27.2 innings before coming into last night’s ball game. Hopefully this start will instill some confidence in the starter and help him end the season on a positive note. Campos’ eight strikeouts and six innings were season highs.

What’s not to like about Cory Spangenberg?

EVERYTHING if you happen to be facing him.

Spangenberg continued his torrid pace through Double A going 2-for-4 with two doubles, two runs scored, an RBI, a walk, and a strikeout. The 23 year old is now hitting at a .335 clip with a .374 On Base Percentage. Spangenberg only has two home runs on the year, but power isn’t his game. You know what is? Consistency. Spangenberg is a career .296 hitter in his four years in the minors and could find himself leap frogging Taylor Lindsey next year if Lindsey continues to struggle.

Austin Hedges and Hunter Renfroe had a rough nights at the plate going 0-for-8 with a walk and four strikeouts.

The Missions scored in the first, second, fifth, and sixth innings, including a solo shot from Cody Overbeck in the top of the fifth.
