A full slate of minor league games were scheduled yesterday but the AZL Padres got an unexpected day off. As for the rest of the affiliates they all had to play going 3-3 on the day while being led by Elliot Morris, Jimmy Brasoban and Auston Bousfield.

Triple-A
The El Paso Chihuahuas were defeated by the Reno Aces 7-5.
Despite putting across 5 runs, there wasn’t much to be proud of from the Chihuahuas in last night’s game. Tyler Greene and Rymer Liriano did most of the heavy lifting on offense. The duo notched half of the teams hits while driving in a pair of runs.
On the mound Keyvius Sampson struggled, allowing 4 runs in 4 innings, but he was able to punch out 7 Aces in the short outing. Stephen Kohlscheen made his debut with the Padre organization in relief a appearance. It wasn’t what he had hoped for, allowing a runs in his 1 inning out of the pen.
Today, the Chihuahuas will continue their series against the Aces with Jason Lane (6-8, 4.67 ERA) returning from the big league ballclub. The Aces are yet to announce a starter. First pitch is at 5:05 PDT.
Double-A
The San Antonio Missions lost to the Fresno RoughRiders 3-1.
It was a miserable day for the Missions’ hitters not named Hunter Renfroe and Diego Gorris. Those 2 combined to 5 for 8, while the rest of the lineup went 2 for 26. It’s tough to win when only two guys are pulling their weight, especially when they bat 3 slots apart.
When your on the mound it’s tough to lose when you only give up 1 run, but Justin Hancock found out that it is possible. Hancock gave up just a solo home run in the 3rd in 5 innings of work. It’s tough to see a guy pitch as well as he did and still find themselves with an L next to their name, but I guess they’re just preparing him for the big league club.
Joe Wieland will be making a stop on his rehab tour in San Antonio today against the Rough Riders. Frisco is yet to announce their starter. First pitch is at 4:05 PDT.
Single-A Advanced
The Lake Elsinore Storm defeated the Lancaster JetHawks 5-1.
A four run 5th inning would end up being the difference in last night’s contest. Gabriel Quintana‘s 2 run double was the key to it all, but it was supplemented by a hit by pitch and a wild pitch. This scoring outburst would give the Storm the lead, and they wouldn’t look back.
The reason that big inning was all they needed was in large part due to Elliot Morris. The Storm’s starter last night went 7 strong innings surrendering only 1 run on 3 hits. It was only Morris’ 3rd start with the Storm, but it was 3rd straight going 6+ innings allowing 2 or fewer runs on 5 or fewer hits.
Today the Storm will send Bryan Rodriguez (6-6, 4.01 ERA) to face the JetHawks. Lancaster is yet to name their starter. First pitch is at 5:00 PDT.
Single-A Low
The Fort Wayne TinCaps shutout the West Michigan Whitecaps 6-0.
It’s rare to see someone pitch as well as Jimmy Brasoban pitched, and have 0 strikeouts, but that was case yesterday. Brasoban tossed 6 shutout innings allowing 8 hits while striking out none of the Whitecap hitters. It is definitely one of the weirder pitching lines I’ve seen, but it worked out in the end for the TinCpas.
The run support for Brasoban came primarily from Nick Schulz out of the 9 hole. Every time Schulz stepped up to the plate he reached base. He went 2 for 2 with 2 walks while scoring 2 runs and driving in 3. He also added a home run to that line. Ryan Miller also had a good night going 2 for 3 with a RBI.
The TinCaps will send Cody Hebner (1-1, 2.05 ERA) to the mound today and the Whitecaps will counter with Kevin Ziomek (8-6, 2.17 ERA). First pitch is at 10:00 A.M. PDT.
Single-A Short Season
The Eugene Emeralds defeated the Everett AquaSox 7-6.
The Emeralds were to pull out a late win late last night on a Auston Bousfield 8th inning home run. It was great night for Bousfield who added 2 more hits in addition to his homer as well as a pair of runs scored.
Walter Weickel struggled on the mound failing to escape the 5th inning allowing 6 runs. Lucky for the bullpen picked him up particularly Samuel Holland who struck out 6 of the 8 batters he faced.
Today the Emeralds will face Lucas Schiraldi (1-2, 5.19 ERA) and the AquaSox. The Emeralds are yet to name their starter. First pitch is at 1:05 PDT.
Rookie: Dominican Summer League
The DSL Padres were beat by the DSL Diamondbacks 6-2.
Another day another loss for the DSL Padres whose record dropped to 13-41. Jose Savinon should be the only Padre who gets a good night of sleep, netting 2 of the team’s 5 hits and the lone RBI.
Today the DSL Padres will get a needed day off. They’ll be back in action on Monday.
Rookie: Arizona League
The AZL Padres against game the AZL Reds was postponed.
Today the AZL Padres will try to get a game in against the AZL Reds. No starters have been announced. First pitch is at 7:00 PDT.
