Can the Padres be the franchise that hires the first female GM? If Kim Ng has anything to say about it, they just might. The Padres completed their second round of GM interviews by interviewing Ng for the second time. The club hopes to have a GM picked by the early part of August.
Ng, Yankees’ assistant GM Billy Eppler, Red Sox assistant GM Mike Hazen and Rangers assistant GM A.J. Preller are the four finalists for the position.
Ng is currently the senior vice president of baseball operations for MLB. She has been an assistant GM with the Yankees, and Dodgers. Ng interviewed to the be the Pads GM back in 2009, before they gave the position to Jed Hoyer.
Omar Minaya still leads the trio that is running the baseball side of the Padres right now, as they continue to deal off players. With less than a week to go before the deadline, guys like Chris Denorfia could follow Chase Headley out of town.
It will be interesting to see what kind of team Ng or any of the other finalists inherit.
