St. Louis Cardinals’ assistant general manager Michael Girsch has chosen to withdraw his name from consideration for the vacant GM’s position with the San Diego Padres according to ESPN.com. Girsch is currently in his 8th season with the Cardinals, his fourth serving as assistant GM under John Mozeliak.
Girsch had been considered one of the top names for the Padres, who continue to run candidates through what seems to be a revolving door of interviews. Former general manager Josh Byrnes was fired by the team back on June 22nd, and a three-headed group led by former Montreal Expos’ and New York Mets’ GM Omar Minaya have been handling the player personnel moves while the search has been ongoing. Girsch originally joined the Cardinals during the 2006 season as the amateur scouting coordinator.
