The Padres have several key players on the mend. Some of them will return a lot sooner than others. Here is a look at everyone’s progress…
Nick Vincent hasn’t pitched since June 11th. He is 0-2 on the season with a 5.67 ERA in 30 appearances. He is on the disabled list with shoulder discomfort. He threw a bullpen session yesterday and is scheduled to rehab this week.
Jedd Gyorko has been sidelined for over a month with plantar fasciitis in his planting foot. He will start hitting in the cage this week and a rehab assignment should follow soon. He struggled in the 56 games he has played this year, only hitting .162 with 5 HRs.
Robbie Erlin has been out for nearly 2 months with an elbow injury. He was recently moved to the 60-day disabled list and is scheduled to throw a bullpen session early this week. He is far from returning but it does not look like he will be added to the Tommy John list. He was 3-4 with a 4.53 ERA before getting hurt.
Andrew Cashner has not started since June 18th and has started a throwing program. This is his second stint on the DL this year. He is 2-6 with a 2.36 ERA and 59 K’s.
Yonder Alonso has been out since June 17th and is scheduled to start swinging this week. It is possible he could return this month. Before the injury, Alonso was starting to swing well. He had hits in 4 of his last 5 games.
Everth Cabrera was placed on the 15-day DL on July 1st with a hamstring strain, he is eligible to return right after the All-Star break but the date has been undetermined.
Recently acquired reliever Troy Patton has been on the 60-day DL since June 14th and is just resting his strained left shoulder and will not need surgery.
