Padres Searching For Fifth Straight Win

Later today, the Padres will begin a three-game series against the division rival San Francisco Giants. The Padres will send Eric Stults (2-11, 5.36 ERA) to the mound to begin home a victory on this Independence Day. Last time out, Stults suffered the loss against the Diamondbacks, after allowing three runs, two earned, on three hits while striking out 5 in 5 1/3 innings. Stults’ poor record is not entirely his fault. Stults has received only 2.47 runs of support during his starts, which is lowest in the majors among qualified starters. Hopefully the Padres recent offensive outbreak can carry over and help get Stults back into the win column.

The Giants will counter with Matt Cain (1-6, 4.38 ERA). Cain has struggled over his career against San Diego. Cain has a lifetime 7-13 record while pitching against the Padres. The Padres scored six runs of Cain last week in San Francisco. With the Padres bat currently on a hot streak, it makes sense that their hitting should continue as they face a familiar foe in Cain.

Let hope the Padres can win tonight as they attempt to win back-to-back series after sweeping the Cincinnati Reds.

First Pitch is at 6:40 pm ET.
