San Diego native and current Padres’ farmhand Brooks Conrad has been recalled by the big club in lieu of the team placing starting shortstop Everth Cabrera on the 15-day disabled list. Cabrera has recently suffered a left hamstring stain, and the team felt rest was the best course of action with the All-Star break right around the corner.
Conrad, who has had an offensive explosion down in Triple-A El Paso, is currently hitting .275, with 18 home runs, 57 driven in, in only 77 games. The former big leaguer could provide some much-needed pop to a Padres’ offense that broke out last night for 8 runs and 16 hits. The Padres also announce that pitcher Troy Patton has been transferred from the 15-day DL to the 60-day DL.
