Only 5 of the Padres minor league teams were in action yesterday. They combined for a record of 4-1. The Padres farm system is seeing a lot of success at all levels, which will hopefully translate into a better San Diego Padres’ team in the future. Let’s take a look down on the farm.
Triple-A
The El Paso Chihuahuas defeated the Tacoma Rainiers 6-4.
Chihuahuas’ 3B Brooks Conrad led the charge yesterday. Conrad went 2-for-4 with a 2-run home runs. Conrad now owns a slash line of .273/.347/.517 on the season. El Paso starter Juan Oramas, earning another quality start, pitched 6 innings, allowing 2 runs on 4 hits and 2 walks while striking out 5.
Tonight El Paso begins a 4-game series against the Albuquerque Isotopes. As of the publishing of this article neither team has named a starter. First pitch is at 8:05 pm CT.
Double-A
The San Antonio Missions defeated the Springfield Cardinals 7-2.
Missions’ SS Adam Buschini had a tremendous night at the plate. Buschini went 2-for-4 with 3 RBI and 2 home runs on the night, a solo shot in the third and a 2-run shot in the fourth. 1B Jason Hagerty also joined in on the hit parade going 2-for-5, with a 3-run home run in the seventh.
San Antonio starter James Needy earned another quality start; Needy pitched 6 innings of shutout baseball only allow 1 hit and 2 walks while striking out 3. Needy’s ERA now sits at 2.20 on the season. Could Needy follow in Jesse Hahn’s footsteps and make the jump from Double-A to the majors? If the Padres have a fire-sale, I think Needy has a strong chance of seeing a cup of coffee before the end of the season.
Tonight the Missions have a double-header against the Springfield Cardinals. In game 1 they will send Matt Branham (5-2, 3.99 ERA) to the mound to face Kyle Hald (6-2, 3.12 ERA). First pitch is at 4:30 pm CT. Game 2 will follow game one with the Missions sending Bryce Morrow (0-1, 0.95 ERA) to the mound against Sam Gaviglio (3-8, 5.27 ERA).
Single-A Advanced
The Lake Elsinore Storm defeated the Lancaster JetHawks 8-5.
The Storm had 13 hits on the night led by 1B Luis Domoromo. Domoromo went 4-for-5 on the night raising his average to .287 on the season. Hot-hitting prospect Diego Goris added 2 hits of his own with a double and 2 RBI on the day.
The Storm has tonight off before beginning a 3-game home stand against the Inland Empire 66ers.
Single-A Low
The Fort Wayne TinCaps lost to South Bend Silver Hawks 11-7.
TinCaps 3B Dustin Peterson went 3-for-6 with 3 RBI, including a double and home run. Peterson’s slash line now sits at .261/.317/.417 on the season with 7 home runs and 63 RBI.
Tonight Fort Wayne send Erik Cabrera (3-5, 4.66 ERA) to the mound to face the South Bend Silver Hawks who as of the publishing of this article have yet to name a starter. First pitch is at 6:05 pm CT.
Class A: Rookie Short Season
The Eugene Emeralds defeated the Spokane Indians 4-2.
The Emeralds LF Marcus Davis went 2-for-3 with 2 doubles, 2 RBI, and 1 run scored. This was Davis’ second multi-hit game of the season. Davis now has 3 home runs, 9 RBI, and 1 stolen base on the season.
Tonight the Emeralds send Michael Kelly (1-2, 3.29 ERA) to the mound to face Spokane’s Derek Thompson (1-2, 3.60 ERA). First pitch is at 12:05 pm PDT.
Rookie: Dominican Summer League
The DSL Padres had yesterday off, but today they face the DSL White Sox. As of the publishing of this article neither team has named a starter. First pitch is at 7:30 am PDT.
Rookie: Arizona Fall League
The AZL Padres also had the day-off yesterday. Tonight they face the AZL Angels. As of the publishing of this article neither team has yet to name a starter. First pitch is at 7:00 pm PDT.
Keep the Faith.
