The San Diego Padres announced a couple of roster moves earlier today. The first was claiming Milwaukee Brewers’ minor league infielder Irving Falu off of waivers. For the Brewers’ Triple-A affiliate, the Nashville Sounds, Falu is having a pretty solid season, hitting .306 with 5 doubles and 16 runs driven in, in only 144 at-bats. Falu has spent time with the Kansas City Royals prior to his time in the Milwaukee organization.
The move gives the Friars some additional infield depth, with the uncertainty of when infielder Jedd Gyorko will be returning. Gyroko when on the disabled list at the beginning of June with plantar fasciitis in his right foot. To make room on the 40-man roster for Falu, the Padres also announced that they have transferred pitcher Robbie Erlin from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day disabled list, and will make an additional roster move once Falu passes his physical upon his arrival in San Diego.
