Jason Lane, former outfielder turned left-handed pitcher, was called up by the Padres yesterday. This marks his first time in the big leagues since 2007. He pitched 3.1 shutout innings with three strikeouts. Welcome back to the major leagues Mr. Jason Lane!
Triple-A
The El Paso Chihuahuas (29-31) lost to the Tacoma Rainers (23-34) 13-4.
El Paso starter Keyvius Sampson had a night he would like to forget pitching 4 innings allowing 8 runs on 7 hits and 4 walks with striking out 3. Sampson is now 2-5 on the season with an ERA of 6.71. Sampson has struggled late allowing at least five earned runs in his last 4 starts.
Chihuahua left-fielder Jake Goebbert had a great night at the plate; he went 3-for-4 with a walk while scoring 3 runs. He raises his average to .263 on the season. Catcher Adam Moore also added 3 hits and a walk on the night with 2 doubles and an RBI.
El Paso has the night off before traveling to beginning a 4-game series against the Reno Aces.
Double-A
The San Antonio Missions (30-27) defeated the Frisco RoughRiders (33-23) 3-1.
With last night’s victory the Missions are now only 3.5 games back from the division leader RoughRiders.
The Missions started the game off on a good note with Yeison Asencio scoring on a Rymer Liriano double to left field. Liriano added another hit and RBI in the top of the third ending the game going 2-for-4. Liriano leads the team with 34 RBI on the season. Top prospect Austin Hedges is second with 23.
Juan Pablo Oramas (1-0, 0.00 ERA) won his first start since being demoted from Triple-A. Oramas pitched 7 shutout innings allowing 2 hits and 1 walk while striking out 7.
Tonight’s game will feature Luke Jackson (6-2, 2.80 ERA) of the RoughRiders against San Antonio who as of the publishing of this article have yet to name a starter. First pitch it at 8:05 m ET.
Single-A Advanced
The Lake Elsinore Storm (34-26) lost to the Modesto Nuts (20-40) 6-1.
Storm starter Colin Rea fell to 5-4 on the season after allowing a season high 4 runs on 9 hits and 2 walks in 5.1 innings. Padres’ 2013 first-round draft pick Hunter Renfroe went 1-for-4 with 2 strikeouts dropping his average to .286 on the season. Despite going 3-for-13 in his last 3 games, Renfroe still has a strong slash line of .286/.360/.574 in his first full season as a pro.
Tonight’s game will feature Storm starter Bryce Morrow (1-0, 3.05 ERA) facing Ryan Carpenter (1-1, 2.20 ERA) of the Modesto Nuts. First pitch is at 10:05 pm ET.
Single-A Low
The Fort Wayne TinCaps had last night off. Tonight they will begin a 6-game road trip with a 3-game series against the Lake County Captains. Fort Wayne will send Adrian De Horta (0-1, 4.50 ERA) to the mound against the Captains Caleb Hamrick (1-3, 8.62 ERA). First pitch is at 7:00 pm ET.
Rookie: Dominican Summer League (DSL)
The DSL Padres (0-3) lost to the DSL Diamondbacks (2-1) 9-3.
Padres’ Emmanuel Ramos allowed 4 runs (2 earned) on 8 hits while striking out 2 in 5 innings of work. The Padres’ scored 3 runs on 2 hits, 4 walks and 4 errors. Padres’ left fielder Ronaldo Contreras went 1-for-4 with a solo home run.
The DSL Padres return to the diamond against the DSL Diamondbacks. As of the publishing of this article neither teams have named a starter. First pitch is at 10:30 am ET.
