The Padres send Ian Kennedy (4-6, 3.42 ERA) as they try to prevent from being swept by the Pittsburgh Pirates. Kennedy has had mixed results against the Pirates line-up. Andrew McCutchen, Gaby Sanchez, and Neil Walker but have a lifetime average of .310 (minimum of 12 PA); while Pedro Alvarez and Clint Barmes are both below the Mendoza line for their career against Kennedy (minimum 14 PA). Kennedy was great in his last start against the Chicago White Sox pitching 6 strong innings allowing only 1 run on 4 hits and 3 walks while striking out 9.

The Pirates will counter with Francisco Liriano (1-5, 4.62 ERA). Chase Headley (.400) and Chris Denorfia (.333) have fared very well against the Liriano. Look for Black to have both of them in the line-up tonight as the offense needs a spark of any kind.

Notes:

-The Padres have recalled INF Jace Peterson from Triple-A El Paso and optioned Jesse Hahn to Double-A San Antonio.

– Last night Jason Lane became the first pitcher in Padres history to record 10 or more outs without allowing a base runner in his first career appearance.

– Tomorrow will mark the beginning 49th Annual Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft.

Keep the Faith.
