Padres’ Minor League Round-up: Jace Peterson Shines

The Padres’ minor league affiliates began the Memorial Day weekend going 2-3. Here is the minor league roundup for Friday May 24.

Triple-A

The El Paso Chihuahuas played a double header. The first game they lost to the Tacoma Rainiers 4-3.

Cody Decker led the team offensively going 2-for-3. Decker also had 2 doubles and a run on the night. Adam Moore had a 2 RBI single while Rocky Gale added a third RBI on a single. Tim Sexton fell to 0-2 on the season. He pitched 5 1/3 innings allowing 4 runs on 7 hits,  2 walks, and striking out 3.

The second game, was a make-up of their match up from April 8. El Paso defeated the Tacoma Rainiers 8-2.

El Paso’s bats came out swinging in the second game. Jace Peterson 1-for-2 had a home run, 2 walks, and 2 runs with 3 RBI on the night. Jeff Francoeur and Travis Buck each added 2 RBI on the night. Chihuahua’s Michael Nix pitched 7 innings allowing 2 run on 6 hits and 1 walk while striking out 5.

Tonight’s game will feature Chihuahua’s Jason Lane (4-4, 4.05 ERA) against the Rainiers who as of the publishing of this article have yet to name a starter. First pitch is at 2:35 pm MT.

Double-A

The San Antonio Missions lost to the Arkansas Travelers 4-2.

Mission’s starter Jesse Hahn pitched 4 innings of shutout ball while allowing 2 hits, 1 walk and striking out 2. San Antonio’s Adam Buschini and Yeison Asencio both went 2-for-4 on the night. Buschini hit a solo homerun in the lost.

Austin Hedges was held hitless going 0-for-3 and dropping his season average to .272.

Tonight’s game will feature Casey Kelly (1-0, 0.75 ERA), who faces the Travelers, is still working his way back from Tommy John surgery. The Travelers have yet to name a starter. First pitch is at 5:30 pm CT.

The Lake Elsinore Storm defeated the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes 6-3.

Colin Rea earned a quality start pitching 6 innings allowing no runs on 5 hits and walking none while striking out 5. Tevor Gott pitched a perfect ninth inning for his 14th  save on the season. Diego Goris had an outstanding night at the plate. Goris went 3-for-5 with a Grand Slam raising his average to .320 on the season.

Tonight’s game will feature Storm’s starter Bryce Morrow (1-0, 3.33 ERA) pitching against Chris Anderson (2-4, 5.52 ERA). First Pitch is at 2:05 pm ET.

The Fort Wayne TinCaps lost to the Lansing Lugnuts 4-3.

The TinCaps sent 5 pitchers to the mound during the game. Starter Payton Baskette pitched 5 innings of shutout ball allowing 3 hits and 4 walks while striking out 3. Both TinCaps’ relievers Tony Rizzotti (2) and Tayron Guerrero (1) had a blown save on the evening. One of the bright spots offensively was Dustin Peterson who went 3-for-5 with 2 doubles, 2 RBI, and with a run scored.

Tonight’s game will feature TinCaps’ starter Kyle Lloyd (1-1, 2.10 ERA) against Lugnuts’ Amir Garret (0-3, 4.81 ERA). First pitch is at 7:05 pm ET.
