Only three of the Padres’ four minor league teams were action yesterday,and they combined for a record of 2-1.
Triple-A
The El Paso Chihuahuas defeated the Sacramento River Cats 3-2.
Jason Lane, the converted left fielder, pitched 7 innings allowing only 1 run while lower his ERA to 4.05. Lane is continuing to hold his own on the mound as he tries to remake the Big Show as a pitcher. Lane played in the big leagues from 2002-11. He is most remembered for being the starting left fielder for the 2005 Houston Astros World Series team.
On the offensive side of the ball, Jeff Francoeur went 2-for-4 with 2 RBI raising his average up to .255 on the season. Francoeur is also trying to recapture lightening in the bottle since this 2012, his last season as a starter for Kansas City.
Tonight Chihuahuas start Matt Wisler (0-2, 12.71 ERA) looks to regain his form. He has struggled since his promotion to Triple-A. He will face the Sacramento River Cats who as of the publishing of this article have yet to name a starter. First pitch is at 3:05 pm ET.
Double-A
The San Antonio Missions resume play after having Tuesday off; they will send Odrisamer Despaigne (0-0, 3.00 ERA) to face Sam Selman (2-3, 3.90 ERA) and the Northwest Arkansas Naturals. First pitch is at 8:05 pm ET.
Single-A Advanced
The Lake Elsinore Storm defeated the High Desert Mavericks 4-2.
Lake Elsinore’s Bryce Morrow pitched 5 innings allowing 2 runs while striking out 4 while getting a no-decision. Matthey Shepard replaced Morrow pitching to innings of relief earning his second victory of the season. Trevor Gott pitched a 1-2-3 9th innings to earn his 12th save on the season.
The Storm’s left fielder Jeremy Baltz went 2-for-3 with 2 RBI, 1 run, and 1 walk to lead the offensive charge. Hunter Renfroe went 1-for-4 with an RBI double. Renfroe has a slash line of .261/.343/.489 in his first season at Single-A.
Both teams return to the diamond tonight to the second of a 3-game series. The Storm send Bryan Rodriquez (0-3, 2.54 ERA) to the mound to face the Mavericks, who as of the publishing of this article have yet to name a starter. First pitch is at 9:05 am ET.
Single-A Low
The Fort Wayne TinCaps lost to the Lake County Captains 7-6.
Fort Wayne starter Coby Cowgill lasted only 2 2/3rd innings after allowing e runs on 7 hits and 3 walks. Down 6-2 in the sixth inning the TinCaps’ offense scored 3 runs to close the gap to 1 run; they would later tie it in the 8th off an Adolfo Reina single to right field scoring Franmil Reyes. However, the Lake County Captains would earn the win on a walk-off a Clasudio Bautista single to leftfield.
Today Fort Wayne faces Lake County starter Robbie Aviles (0-1, 1.23 ERA). As of the publishing of this article Fort Wayne has yet to name a starter. First pitch is at 11:00 am ET.
