Padres Drop Series Opener Against The Twins

Ian Kennedy pitched 6 2/3 innings while his counterpart Kevin Correia lasted six innings earning his third quality start on the season.
The Twins’ Chris Parmelee started off the scoring with a second inning home run off of Kennedy. The Twins repeated in the third stringing 3 singles together with Trevor Plouffe earning his 28 RBI on the season.
The Padres took the lead scoring 3 runs in the bottom of the 5th inning. Chase Headley led off the inning with a double. Jedd Gyorko would follow with a single to score Headley from third. With Venable on third, Yasmani Grandal earned his 13th RBI of the season on a sacrifice fly to left. Kennedy would earn the third RBI of the inning with a single to center.
In the sixth, Plouffe would score on a wild pitch by Kennedy, while Eduardo Escobar would single to score Josmil Pinto making the score 4-3 Minnesota.
Kurt Suzuki would add a inside-the-park home run in the eighth inning to seal the win for the Minnesota.
The second and last game of the series will be tomorrow. Tyson Ross (5-3, 2.81 ERA) will take the hill against San Diego native son, Phil Hughes (4-1, 3.61 ERA). First pitch is at 6:10 pm PT.
