The San Diego Union Tribune’s Dennis Lin reports that the Padres have placed ace RHP Andrew Cashner to the DL with elbow soreness.
The move is retroactive to the 15th of May – and Kevin Quackenbush continues his travels with his 5th recall now to the big league club. He has made 3 appearances with 3 2/3 IP.
The bigger move though is Cashner. He looked strong is his last outing on Tuesday, going seven innings and getting a no-decision in a game the Padres would win in the 9th. He was still throwing in the 90’s when he left after throwing 95 pitches.
However, as the TJ-plague spreads throughout the majors, any news about an elbow injury is enough to put up a red flag. We will find out more information over the next day or two, and it is not clear if Cashner has already undergone an MRI in Colorado or will fly back to San Diego for evaluation.
Since Cashner’s rotation spot would be due up Sunday, we might see Donn Roach or Tim Stauffer make a spot start with Quackenbush in the bullpen.
