The Padres return to the field tonight looking to continue their hot hitting. Jedd Gyorko went 3-for-4 last night after three straight hitless games. Hopefully last night’s performance will help Gyorko shake his sophomore slump; he is batting .165 on the season despite having 5 home runs with 18 RBI on the season.

Eric Stults (1-3, 5.40 ERA) will take his turn on the mound to build on this series’ great performance by Padres’ starters. Ian Kennedy and Tyson Ross have combined for 14 innings pitched allowing only 2 runs with 20 strikeouts. Stults has pitched a combined 7.2 innings in his previous two starts. He will need to his command tonight to be successful while facing Giancarlo Stanton and the Marlins’ offense.

Nathan Eovaldi (2-1, 2.78 ERA) will take the mound for Miami. Eovaldi has been doing his best Jose Fernandez impression this season. He has lasted at least 6 innings in every start this season recording 45 strikeouts with a .99 WHIP.

The Padres offense welcomes back Chase Headley as they look to build on last night’s momentum. With Headley’s activation today, he will have spent the minimum 15-days on the DL. The Padres need Headley to return to his 2012 form if they want to see the postseason for the first time since 2006.

First pitch at 5:40 PT.

Keep the Faith.
