It’s been a while since we had an Around the Bases article. That’s mainly because I went blind in my right eye. which made typing a little difficult. But, I’m back! Soon the “Boys of Summer” will be back as well. Padres Pitchers and Catchers report in one week! Here’s what’s going on in the world of Padres news.

Our own Noah Eli told the FOB community back in January that the Padres should sign Tony Sipp. That’s exactly what happened. There had been some talk earlier in the offseason that Cory Luebke could see some time as a lefty reliever before working his way back to the rotation. Now Luebke is out for another season. The addition of Alex Torres does not completely solve the left-handed reliever issue for the Padres, mainly because he is seen as a great option against lefties and righties. Corey Brock has a nice article up about the looming battle for the possible second left-handed reliever.

Padres FanFest is from 10am to 4pm this Saturday. There will be numerous opportunities to meet and greet players and coaches. There will also be question and answer sessions with the front office and ownership personnel, which could get pretty interesting. Gaslamp Ball has the full schedule of appearances and clinics. It may take a lot of time management skill to see everyone but, what a fun challenge to take on!

Have fun everyone and let the countdown to Spring Training begin!
