NL West Roundup – 12/20/13

Bob DeChiara-USA TODAY Sports

We spent a few weeks writing about the other NL West teams because we really didn’t have anything else to talk about. We do know, though. We have Joaquin Benoit! But, we might as well still talk about the enemies a little. They’re still doing things after all. Even if the Padres have stopped for now.

Venom Strikes – D-Backs

The D-backs re-signed Brad Ziegler. Last season Ziegler had a 4.50 ERA with 6 K’s and 2 BB’s in 8 innings pitched. Welcome back Brad. We look forward to seeing you!

With Masahiro Tanaka off the market the D-Backs may be in the market for another starting pitcher. Thomas Lynch thinks it could be Matt Garza, Ubaldo Jimenez or possibly even David Price.

Rox Pile – Rockies

The Rockies have been one of the busiest teams in the NL West and they continued the acquisitions this week by trading for Drew Stubbs and Franklin Morales.

Lasorda’s Lair – Dodgers

The Dodgers signed Dan Haren back in November and Lasorda’s Lair would like to help fans get to know him. In case you’re wondering, Dan Haren has pitched very well against the Friars in his career. He has a 3.84 ERA with 89 K’s and 20 BB’s over 100.2 innings pitched. Hopefully that changes this coming season.

The Dodgers still need a fifth starter apparently. If only they had the money to sign someone. Poor Dodgers.

Around the Foghorn – Giants

Brett Pill was traded to a Korean team. We won’t miss him. Career he slashed .333/.375/.600 with 4 HR’s over 30 AB’s against the Padres. This kind of reminds me of the time Kyle Kendrick was fake traded to a Japanese team.

Stay tuned for our NL West preview coming up very soon. Guess which team is the only one that will finish ahead of the Padres.
