Padres GM Josh Byrnes took over the @Padres Twitter account to answer questions from 12-12:30 pm PT today. He didn’t back down from the tough questions, and displayed his passion for improving the team. Say what you want about Byrnes, but you got to love the fan interaction before he heads down to Winter Meetings.
Here are some of the tweets and responses from the GM:
.@singingfriar What I meant was that Smith was a much needed left handed bat, proven against RHP & we've had struggles against RHP #PadsChat

.@williep1414 Many more moves possible. We've made trades in the past (Kennedy, Ross, Cashner, Quentin, etc.) because of depth. #PadsChat

.@Zach_Willamson We like many of our young RHR (Vincent, Boxberger, Quackenbush, Campos, etc.). We also might explore the market. #PadsChat

Some Jedd Gyorko love!
.@PADRESCOUNRTY Good question. Among younger bats, probably Gyorko. Proven track record and solid rookie year. #PadsChat

Injury status report.
.@woedoctor Very encouraged. All progressing well. Luebke and Wieland threw off the mound vs. hitters this fall. #PadsChat

Don’t get excited for any “mega-contracts.”
.@WhatKPsays We've raised payroll and acquired players with salary (Quentin, Street, Kennedy, Johnson). No mega-contracts though. #PadsChat

Not backing down from any Q’s.
.@BrianKoke Fair question. We've had star flashes from certain players. Success as a team is important too (see CLE and OAK). #PadsChat

I agree with Josh regarding the following question. Health has hurt us more than the lack of a big bat.
.@diegornelas SD run-scoring was above-avg in NL from ASB '12 to ASB '13. Injuries took toll. Health is concern > ability 2 score.#PadsChat

Always good to be optimistic! Better jump on the bandwagon now!
.@Pease_And_Qs Absolutely. 76 wins with most DL days. We will be better and healthier. Still looking to improve in off-season. #PadsChat
