Here is the “Daily Roundup,” Friars fans:
- Matt Snyder of CBS Sports.com came out with his new “MLB Power Rankings.” Snyder dropped the Padres from #15 overall to #20 overall and discussed how Chase Headley’s lack of production will hurt him when his contract expires at the end of the 2014 season.
- Speaking of San Diego’s third baseman, Bill Center of The San Diego Union-Tribune questioned which is the “real” Headley? The one who led the National League in runs batted in, won a Gold Glove, and tore through the final two months of the 2012 regular season? Or the one batting under .240 right now?
- Corey Brock of Padres.com wrote an interesting piece on the subject of how San Diego’s brass are monitoring some of their best young pitchers in the minor leagues from pitch counts and innings perspectives. Brock mentioned how one of the Padres’ Single-A affiliates, the Fort Wayne TinCaps, have moved to a six-man rotation to lighten the work load for the young but promising and talented collection of pitchers like Max Fried, Zach Eflin, and Walker Weickel.
