Here is the “Daily Roundup,” Friars fans:

• After he was shelled for eight runs during 4.1 innings of work on Monday night, Edinson Volquez told a group of reporters after the game that he thought that he might have accidentally tipped his pitches according to Aaron Gleeman Harball Talk.com (via Troy Renck of The Denver Post).  Volquez has struggled mightily at Coors Field over his career (8.39 ERA), and he has been hit well by the Rockies there this year (21 earned runs in 12.2 innings pitched).

• Cameron Maybin recently suffered a setback in his most recent rehabilitation stint with Triple-A Tucson.  Maybin, who has not appeared in a minor league game since last Thursday, has been sidelined due to tightness in his knee according to The San Diego Union-Tribune’s Bill Center.  The news is not positive in any way shape or form, particularly because it is the same knee which sustained a PCL injury earlier this summer.

• In other injury news, Carlos Quentin still seems to be hobbled by his right knee injury.  In fact, Corey Brock of Padres.com reported that Quentin will not come off the disabled list on the day he is eligible tomorrow.

• In addition to his update on Quentin, Brock also wrote an interesting piece on Yonder Alonso.  The Padres.com beat writer discussed how San Diego’s first baseman has hit well as of late, but just not for power.  In fact, 26 of Alonso’s last 28 hits since mid-July have been singles.  I for one will not complain for the simple fact that Alonso has hit .315 since he returned from the disabled list (28 for 89).  In fact, he has been one of the team’s most consistent, if not the most consistent, hitters so far this year.  Nevertheless, it would be nice to see a power surge from the Friars’ first baseman.
